Muhammad Saeed al-Sahhaf, the former Iraqi Information Minister under Saddam, better known as “Baghdad Bob” for his outlandish claims during the US invasion of Iraq, told The Mideast Beast that he was “starting to get a bit worried” about former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani over his defense of US President Donald Trump.

“Listen, I know that sometimes you have to stick your neck out in defense of your egomaniacal dictator boss, but you’ve got to draw the line somewhere,” said Sahhaf, who in 2003 claimed that American soldiers were committing suicide by the thousands and that no US troops were anywhere near Bagdad. “You can’t just say ‘our leader did not commit treason, but even if he did, it’s not a problem.’ You have to finesse it.”

Sahhaf’s statement comes as Giuliani is under increasing criticism for his confused defense of Trump over charges of collusion with Russia’s election interference. While calling his loyalty to Trump “honorable,” Sahhaf said he is worried about Giuliani’s mental state.

“If he keeps this up,” Sahhaf added, “people are going to stop taking him seriously.”
